POSTURE & MOVEMENT #2

In Back, TIPS EXERCISE STRETCHES

Back Saving Moving from Lying to Sitting:

Roll from your back to your side, keeping your knees bent and your shoulders and hips in alignment. Dangle the feet and lower legs off the side of the bed, and the push off using your arms while keeping your back straight and using your legs as a counterweight. Be sure to sit straight, not slouch when reaching the seated position.

Seated with Poor Posture Example 1:

The back is rounded with the head jutting forward.

Seated with Poor Posture Example 2:

Leaning back into the chair with a heavily rounded back and the head jutting forward.

Seated with Good Posture:

Knees and hips are at 90 degree angles and the low back and neck curves are preserved. The ears are over the shoulders, the shoulders are over the hips, while sitting in an upright position.

Seated with Low Back Support Pillow:

Seated upright with the knees and hips at 90 degree angles, place a pillow or cushion at the level of the small of the back (not behind the hips). This will support the low back curve and unload some of the pressure on it.
